I love when I can do a craft for cheap cheap cheap.
I love it even more when it turns out AWSOME!

To make these custome earrings you’ll need:
~Earrings
~Spray paint
~Needle nose pliers
~Some sort of drop cloth (I used a paper towel)

1. Use the needle nose pliers to remove all the hardware.
2. Lay the earrings on your drop cloth. Spray. Let dry. Flip. Repeat till you like the color.
3. Use the pliers to reattach the hardware.
4. Take fun cell phone pictures of yourself wearing the earrings.

I get compliments every time I wear mine… I’ll probably go back and get 10 more pairs to paint in 10 more colors.
REALLY!

I learned how to make these cute little pumpkins at yesterday at library story time!
(Support your local library story time!!)

So easy to make and I think they would be the perfect Thanksgiving place cards.

You’ll need: Tissue paper, pipe cleaners, white paper for the names, hole punch, scissors

1. Cut tissue paper into 3×5 rectangles and l

ayer six tissues on top of each other.

2. Fold the tissue accordion style starting at the short end with about 1/2” between folds, and set aside.

3. Fold the pipe cleaner in half and twist the folded end about an inch down to create the pumpkin stem then place the fully folded tissues toward the top toward the fold and twist the bottom to secure the tissues.

4. Un-fan the tissues and gently spread out each layer till a nice lil’ round pumpkin is formed and open up the bottom of the pipe cleaner to make a hidden pumpkin stand.

5. Cut out rectangle name tags and hole punch in the upper left corner, then cut a slit into the upper left corner into the hole punch so the name tag can easily be placed on the pumpkin stem.

How cute would these be with other color combinations! Brown pipe cleaners and off white tissue, or brown tissue and yellow pipe cleaners. Perfect for for place settings, a kiddo craft or fun Autumn décor!

I shared the fun table set-up from our awesome Back to School Feast in my last post, this time I want to show you how to make an adorable banner.
A banner even a non-crafty person can make in minutes!
Banners, pennants and buntings are all the rage. But if you don’t have time, money or talent for hours at the sewing machine, opt for this flash card banner…

You’ll Need:
~Twine (or string, or yarn, or ribbon, or… you get the idea!)
~Flashcards (I got mine at The Dollar Tree!)
~Hole punch

1. At the top of each flashcard punch a hole about 3/4″ from either end.
2. Use the twine to string the banner together. (I like stringing from the back of the card first so the twine can be seen in the center from the front.)
3. Hang and admire!

Our Back to School Feast banner looks so sweet and the kiddos had a fun time “reading” the cards!

I found these beautiful flashcards at Anthropologie and I think they are the perfect accent for a nursery or playroom!

My husband picked an inspirational theme for the year (Proverbs 19:20) and I did vintage carnival decortions.

I got everything at the Dollar Tree that afternoon to add a lil’ fancy to dinner! It doesn’t take much to punch up an average dinner into a memory your kiddos will have forever.

Table settings:

~Brown postal-paper (cut into thin strips) as runners

~Yellow paper plates

~Classic lined school paper with our names for place cards (taped to the table under the plates)

~Silly carnival faces for each guest (classic “bang” gun for Eli)

~Mustaches on each of the glasses

I also put the “key” words of from our theme HEAR, RECEIVE & ACCEPT on lil’ handprint cardstocks (you can see them down the middle of the table in some of the pix) to hang in Eli’s room to remind him of the feast.

Hope you get some ideas to decorate for a Back to School Feast of your own!

Things don’t have to be crazy. I literally went to The Dollar Tree that afternoon and spent $20 on silly goodies for the décor. You gotta do dinner anyway so just add a little bit of fancy.

Happy Labor Day!!

Put away your white and get ready for Autumn. It sure does feel like the cold is coming in with all this random weather!

Today I’m going to share a fun craft you can make for your kiddos that turns into an awesome family activity. Even though Summer is over, you still need to spend about an hour a day outside and get that good-for-you vitamin D!

Make this Playground Passport and try out new playgrounds across your fine city every weekend!

Print the cover on cardstock here.

Print loads of inside pages here on regular paper.

Then get crafty and use stickers, markers and simple drawings to fill each box up as you visit new places!

If you need a little inspiration for new places to visit check out this guest post at Eli’s Lids from my fellow IE Family blogger Michele AND her extensive list of Parks at her blog, Fun OC Parks!

I discovered this lil’ gem of a place from this book and I just had to share the Kids Fairy Garden class!

How to make a Fairy Garden

Step 1: Paint a flower pot…

Step 2: Sprinkle Fairy Dust. You don’t have any?? Not to fret, Miss Danni and Miss Libby at Dragonfly Shops and Gardens have the real deal!

Step 3: Cover a mini birdhouse with sparkles, because we all know Fairies love shiny things!!

Tip: The more glue the better!

Step 4: Add dirt. How else will your garden grow??

Step 5: Plant something so your lil’ fairies will feel right at home.

Step 6: Add your shiny birdhouse, a cozy arbor, mini frog, ladybug and butterfly to attract the wee lil’ fairies.

Side Note: Superheros are optional. But if you want the full scoop about boy-ifying your Fairy Garden check out this “how to” post.

Found another useful purpose for one of my empty containers! (You know I gloat over finding any reason to use something out of that filled cupboard.)

Now that Cy is mobile we have had to do some child proofing. Lame… but safety and all. If you have an easel the chalk tray has now become a death trap for choking. Fix it in minutes!

You’ll need:

~Empty plastic container (I used a peanut butter one)

~About a yard of pretty ribbon

~Lighter

~Something pointy (I used an ice pick and a screwdriver)

Grab the container, and poke holes on either side. I used the ice pick for the initial poke then the screwdriver to make the holes bigger. Set the container aside.

Cut the ends of your ribbon in a cutsie ‘v’ shape. And run the lighter over them to keep them from fraying.

Now for the knots…

You have to do the knots in an order because it’s one length of ribbon. It’s not rocket science but it’s such a pain to tie and untie knots… ahem.

1. Tie a knot at one end of the ribbon.

2. Thread it through the container from the outside. (So one knot is on the outside)

3. Tie the next knot so the side of the container fits snugly between this knot and the first knot. (Container side is secure between two knots)

4. Tie the third knot on the other end of the ribbon approximately where the second knot is on the first side, leaving room on the very end for the 4th knot. (So you are doing the inside knot on the other side)

5. Thread the short piece through the other side of the container.

6. Tie the forth (and last) knot so the other side of the container fits snugly between knots 3 and 4.

If you have to adjust the height tie a knot where the ribbon hangs on the top of the easel.

The next big step is making sure the big kiddos put the chalk back in the container instead of the chalk tray!
